Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich Updates

Source: HTC blog

Few innovations have improved upon ice cream as much putting it between two cookies and making a sandwich. Which is why we all want Ice Cream Sandwich! Ok, that’s not the real reason, but we’re all excited about Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, coming to HTC.

Here’s the scoop. The following HTC devices are confirmed to get a tasty treat of Ice Cream Sandwich:

DROID Incredible 2 by HTC HTC Amaze 4G HTC Desire S HTC Desire HD HTC EVO 3D HTC EVO Design 4G HTC Incredible S HTC Sensation HTC Sensation XL HTC Sensation 4G HTC Sensation XE HTC Raider HTC Rezound HTC Rhyme HTC Thunderbolt HTC Vivid

As for timing, we’re in the early stages of rolling out Android 4.0 for the HTC Sensation and HTC Sensation XE and upgrades will be more widely available in the next few weeks. The update for the HTC Sensation 4G and HTC Sensation XL will follow. Please note, once we start pushing out updates it will take time for all carriers in each country to get the update. We are working closely with our carrier partners to nail down update schedules for our other smartphones and will have more to share very soon.

Huawei Ascend D Quad vs iPhone 4 camera test

The Huawei Ascend D Quad casually sailed into Mobile World Congress and leads Huawei's smart phone fleet as its undisputed flagship. It's packing a powerful quad-core chip, a 720p screen and the latest version of Android.
If it hopes to have a long-term berth in everyone's pockets, it's going to have to deliver in the camera stakes too. To see just what the 8-megapixel snapper can do, I took it for a spin around Barcelona and compared the results to my very own iPhone 4.
I only had a brief hands-on time with the D Quad and I didn't have an iPhone 4S to hand with its improved camera, so the results of the test aren't a scientific conclusion, but it gives a good general idea of how well the new phone performs in the snapping stakes.
The quality settings on both handsets were set to their maximum and all other settings were left on automatic. On the left you'll see the image from the iPhone 4; on the right, the D Quad. Click the images to see the full size versions.

OnLive Desktop Now on Android

By Will765 | Tabletrom

For those iPad users, OnLive has been available for some time, and now it has finally come to android. What is it, exactly? Well, after downloading the app, you basically can use your tablet with a Windows desktop interface. Excel, Internet Explorer, Word, Adobe reader, and Powerpoint are all available with the free version.  You also get 2GB of free cloud storage.  There are paid options also.  For $4.99, you move up to the Plus version, which gives instant access(the free one is as-available, so you may see slowdowns).  Another level, Pro, will set you back $9.99, but increases storage to 50Gb, and lets you customize the desktop with additional apps.

This is the screen you’ll see when you open the app.  For something that works off of remote servers, it is surprisingly fast. Of course, the more people that download and start using it, the slower the free service will become.  However, for now you don’t have to wait for Windows 8 tablets to come out, you can get a taste of windows on your android tablet now.

Google says 850K Android devices activated each day

By Edward C. Baig, USA TODAY
The growth rate for Android continues to accelerate.
Google says 850,000 new Android devices are now being turned on and activated each day, while the current number of active Android smartphones and tablets has topped 300 million. Also, the Android Market has just crossed the 13 billion apps downloads milestone.
At the Mobile World Congress, Android's Director of Product Development Hugo Barra says he expects hundreds of devices running the 4.0 mobile operating system -- nicknamed Ice Cream Sandwich -- to show up soon.
